My exploration of foliage continues. I have accentuated the negative space of the leaf in silver, abstracting and bejeweling the form. Tusk shell, freshwater pearl, moonstone, peridot, and aquamarine. Available here.
We’ve been home for a month- it’s been luxurious! Got organized, spent some time on the beach, worked on new projects at a slower pace. I’ve really enjoyed having the time to work on some major pieces after our hectic winter and spring schedule- it left me slap worn out. In a few days we head to Madison, WI for the Art Fair on the Square– a huge, dynamic art show surrounding the state capitol building. It’s an impressive show and setting, sponsored by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
But the real kicker is the CHEESE! There is a shop called Fromagination on the square, with some seriously aged cheddar at their counter. I can’t wait to savor some again- it’s hard to find in Florida. I’ll let you know my favorites- they ship, you know.
We have been enjoying home since we got back from our last crazy road trip. Settled in at our beach house, we have been spending some time in the ocean- the water is phenomenal! Lots of shells and manatees on our last visit. Soon I’m getting back into the studio, but I plan on making more time for us to spend afternoons like this.
We can’t spend all of our time in the water- so I spent a while updating our website with our current inventory while enjoying the air conditioning (it’s HOT down here!). Check out our latest at barbaraumbel.com.
We’re almost ready to leave Florida to head for the Windy City- Chicago is on our minds. The Old Town Art Fair is this coming weekend, June 9-10. It is staged in a lovely neighborhood in Lincoln Park, a stone’s throw from Lake Michigan. The Old Town Triangle Association sponsors the fair and a Garden Walk in their district of historic homes. The show is a Chicago tradition, drawing a knowledgable and engaged audience. It’s a pleasure to participate in this event, a great kick off to our summer season.
From Chicago we cruise to Virginia Beach, VA to show our jewelry at the Boardwalk Art Show sponsored by the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). This was one of the first shows of my career as a jewelry artist, and it holds a special place in my heart. We look forward to spending 4 days with the Atlantic Ocean as our backdrop, greeting old friends and meeting new collectors.
If we don’t see you there, we will see you here when we get back!
